DOULA

Doula orginates from a Greek word meaning woman who serves.

It is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the pregnant person and their family before, during and just after birth.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it - Dr. John H. Kennell

We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It is that women are strong - Laura Stavoe Harm

When enough women realize that birth is a time of great opportunity to get in touch with their true power, and when they are willing to assume responsibility for this, we will reclaim the power of birth and help move technology where it belongs-in the service of birthing women, not their master - Christiane Northrup
